Recently,the United States semiconductor giant Texas Instruments(TI)cut the chip design team located in Beijing,the team is mainly responsible for the relatively low-end power chip research and development,about 50 people.
The latest news,it is said that the company's office in Shenzhen will also have drastic personnel changes,including marketing,AE,design and other related positions are in the scope of elimination,about 20 people.
As for the reason for the adjustment,the above sources said that the global restructuring of the department,cutting the product line in China and moving it to India,and this product line is still profitable department.
It is reported that TI is not the first time to make this adjustment.In November last year,TI fired the MCU team in China.The team's markets and applications were left behind,RD was abandoned,and the original MCU product line was moved to India,and all team members were dispersed to other product lines.
Industry insiders believe that this layoff may be affected by the entire consumer market demand,on the other hand,it is also affected by the internal roll of power chips,Sino-US relations and other factors.
Last month,TI announced the fourth quarter of 2023 financial results,of which revenue was$4.08 billion,a decline of 10%quarter-on-quarter and 13%year-on-year;Net income was$1.37 billion($1.49 per share),down 30%from a year earlier.
In terms of business,analog revenue was$3.12 billion,down 12%year-over-year,but above expectations of$3.07 billion;Embedded processing revenue was$752 million,down 10%year-over-year and well below expectations of$828.6 million.
As an analog chip giant,TI's guidance for the first quarter of fiscal year 2024($3.45-$3.75 billion)is also significantly lower than the market's expectations(an average of$4.09 billion).
